Description

Nugget came out of a 1970s breeding program conducted by Al Haunold in Corvallis, Oregon as part of the USDA hop breeding program. It is a cross between two high alpha acid hops — USDA 65009 and the male USDA 63015M. It has the prestigious position of being one of the earliest “super-alpha” varieties. Nugget’s popularity has grown quickly especially in the last few years. Released in 1983, by 1987 it was producing 14% of the Pacific Northwest’s hops. With its high alpha acid content, low beta and low cohumulone percentages give it an excellent smooth bittering kick popular in IPAs, Imperials and other super hoppy brews. It’s high myrcene content also results in a green, herbal aroma. Nugget makes for a great hop to use in all steps of the brewing process.

Aromas: Unique Spicy/Fruit flavor and aroma that is compared to the likes of newer Australian Hops. Herbal smoothness with little to no dank characteristics.
